I’m currently watching an anime named Shadows House on Amazon Prime Video. Shadows House is a manga series written and illustrated by the duo So-ma-to. I’ve never read the manga, and the anime has just premiered last month, so it is not available to watch the full season yet. But so far I am quite into it.
Shadows were nobles who lived in two huge houses and were served by living dolls. Shadows’ bodies were all black and full of soot, you can only identify them from their clothing. Whatever they touched would be covered in soot. And the soot would roll up from their heads when they were feeling negative emotions.
The living dolls were made for one purpose. To serve the shadows house with no questions asked. They cleaned the house every day, they learned social matters. They were the face of the shadows. Their expressions had to bond with their masters. In a word, they were their masters’ identities. Unqualified living dolls would be discarded.
Shadows competed with each other to be approved by their great grandfather, which I guess is a villain in this series.
Anyway, despite their cute appearance, I feel this is a mysterious and dark story. Please give it a try if you are interested.
