Palmer

Palmer was abandoned by his mother at 5-year old. His father passed away when he was in high school. His grandmother Vivian took care of him ever since. Palmer was a high school football star. He got injured badly in one game and had to end his football career. One day, he broke into a house and ended up in prison.

Palmer went back to Vivian after 12 years in prison and eventually began to work at the local school as a janitor. A little boy Sam, lives in a trailer with his mother who has a drug addiction, Shell, in Vivian's yard. Vivian often takes care of Sam when Shell goes off. Palmer took Sam in after the sudden death of Vivian.

During Shell’s disappearance, Palmer and Sam get along with each other gradually and develope a special bond. However, Shell returns and is as irresponsible as always. Sam goes back to Shell but soon after Sam was taken in by the social services. Palmer wants to be Sam's legal guardian, however, his application is rejected due to his parole status. One day, Palmer sees Shell fighting with her boyfriend and doing drugs again, and Sam was held back by her boyfriend. Palmer takes Sam away, Shell reported him.

In the end, Shell sees how Sam connects to Palmer, she decides to give Sam's custody to Palmer.
